Brabantia Touch Bin and Other Kitchen Accessories and Basic Tools for a Functional Kitchen by Iain Jenkins
Food preparations
âKitchen knives. Knives are cheaper to buy in sets. A normal knife set includes a chef knife with a triangular blade measuring from 6 to 12 inches in its width. The set can also have a paring knife that measures 3 inches or less in width. A Bread knife also comes with the set plus a utility knife which is used for many purposes. A narrow blade knife, known as the boning knife is used to debone meat is another inclusion. A butcher and Cleaver knife are other types of knives that may or may not be included. In case the set does not include them, they can be bought individually or together with other knife types
.
âChopping boards. Chopping boards are made from different materials. They come as wooden, plastic, rubber or glass. For safety purposes, every good kitchen should have at least two chopping boards, one for raw meat and one for other food items. But a separate chopping board for fruit and vegetables can be a good idea too.
âCan opener. This small but very important kitchen tool is a must to make a kitchen functional. It makes opening any canned goods easier and safer.
âGrater. A Grater can be used for grating cheese, garlic, nutmeg, onions, vegetables and multiple other food items. A grater might not be noticeable in terms of its size but its absence in the kitchen will be truly missed many times during food preparations and cooking.
âPeelers. This is another kitchen item that is very important. Although a knife can do its job, food preparation is made easy with a peeler.
âSpatula. A kitchen spatula is useful in many ways. It is used in baking to mix ingredients but it can also be used in other purposes such as frying or mixing soup.
âStrainer or colander. Cooking is tantamount to regular washing and draining of food items. This makes this kitchen tool important in every kitchen.
Cooking
âCooking spoons or ladles. There are different makes, types, sizes of cooking spoons and ladles. The most common materials are wooden, silicon and steel. In terms of types, mixing, soup, punch, wok ladles or spoons are just some of the examples.
âCooking pans and skillets. Cooking with cooking pans and skillets allows you to cook a wider range of food in a variety of different ways so that all the food served in your home isnât just grilled, baked or precooked.
Baking
âWeighing scale. Baking is coupled with accurate ingredients measurements for a perfect baking job. A Digital weighing scale is handier to use as exact numbers are given eliminating many measurement mistakes.
âMeasuring cups or spoons. A weighing scale might be handy to measure dry ingredients. However, measuring cups or measuring spoons come in handier in several instances. Using these tools is more practical when measuring small quantities of ingredients like a quarter of a teaspoon of baking powder. They are definitely necessary in measuring liquid ingredients.
âConversion table. Baking experience is made easy and enjoyable if the need of a calculator is bypassed. This can be achieved by having a conversion table nearby to refer to when the need arises.
âBaking pans or baking dishes. Of course, your baking job wonât be a success if all the preparation becomes futile because the needed baking pans or dishes are forgotten.
Food storage
âSealed food boxes or containers. Food wastage is very high in the Western world. During this time of economic downturn, making use of leftovers instead throwing them away is one way to save money. To do it in a more organised, safe and healthy way, sealed containers must be provided.
âFreezing bags â The use of freezing bags offers a lot of benefits in a kitchen. Space maximization is one of them. Healthy food storage is another to think of. They are very useful in segregating food items into small potions just enough for one meal. This prevents refreezing food items that have thawed in excess amount which can be an unhealthy practice.
Cleaning accessories
âTea towels and kitchen tea cloths. The cleanest part of the house must be the kitchen. There are many kitchen cleaning accessories available today, and clean tea cloths are just one of them. Other kitchen cloth to clean kitchen surfaces, cupboards and other parts in the kitchen are also important. For healthier and cleaner working tops, antibacterial kitchen cloth can be used.
Safety
âCooking can be enjoyable and relaxing but untoward events can change everything. To maintain safety in the kitchen all the time, proper cooking attire and kitchen accessories must be provided. A heat resistant pair of gloves or pot holder is very important to have when baking or cooking. A thick apron can prevent major damage in case hot food spillage happens.
Waste disposal
âOne very important aspect to look into is to maintain a healthy kitchen environment. Proper waste disposal using a brabantia touch bin is one way to do it. Two or more bins, which are preferably manufactured by brabantia can also be provided for waste segregation purposes.
